Monday Essentials: First Day of School for Melrose Public Schools is Tuesday

Here's a sampling of what's happening from Aug. 26-30 in Melrose:
1. The first day of school for Melrose Public Schools students is Tuesday, Aug. 27, according to the Melrose Public Schools website.
2. Melrose Public Schools students will have Friday, Aug. 30 off in observance of Labor Day, according to the Melrose Public Schools website.
3. The Melrose School Committee will meet twice this week, as they have a special session slated for 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the Aldermanic Chamber at City Hall.
4. The Melrose Retirement Board meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the Retirement Office at City Hall, according to the city website.
5. The Melrose Planning Board will be having a regular meeting at 7:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, followed by a public hearing at 8 p.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room at City Hall.
