Melrose Fire Department - Headquarters

Flag as Inappropriate

The Melrose Fire Department is led by Fire Chief Christopher Leary. Fire Headquarters on Main Street normally house Ladder 1, Engine Five (a brush truck manned when needed), one of the department's three cars (for a Captain) and a Cataldo Ambulance Paramedic Unit. Headquarters is also home to the Chief's Office, the Fire Prevention Office and the Fire Alarm Office.

The station itself was built in 1895 and has changed little since then, although the front doors - originally designed for horse-drawn fire apparatus - were modified in 2000 to accomodate larger, modern equipment. The hay loft door still remains in the rear of the building, along with a beam that the hoist was attached to for raising the hay to the second floor.
