Noureddine Zoukhri taught French at Waltham High School.
A Melrose resident and Waltham High School teacher died suddenly last week. Noureddine Zoukhri, who had taught French for the last four years, died on May 1, according to school officials. He was 58 and lived in Melrose, according to his obituary. “He was caring teacher, a dedicated teacher,” said Waltham High School Principal Gregory Demeo. Zoukhri is the second member of the school community to pass away this year. Earlier this year, a young elementary school student died. According to Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Susan Nicholson, upon learning of Zoukhri's death, the district immediately executed a plan to help students and staff members cope with tragic news. The man known as “Mr. Mayor” died Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Oosterman’s Rest Home in Melrose.
From the Gately Funeral Home: The Honorable James E. Milano, of Melrose, affectionately known as “Mr. Mayor”, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Oosterman’s Rest Home in Melrose. He was 102 years of age. Born in Boston on October 17, 1909 to the late Representative Joseph A. Milano Sr. & Margaret (McDevitt) Milano, he moved to Melrose at an early age. He grew up on Slayton Road when there was still only a wagon trail to get there, before moving to Grove Street at the age of 5. A 1928 graduate of Melrose High School, he worked for the Boston Police Department as a Detective Superintendent from 1932 to 1940. Editor's note: This article was updated on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. Former Melrose Mayor James "Jim" Milano, a beloved and respected icon of the city, died on Wednesday morning, weeks after turning 102 years old, according to the mayor's office. Milano served as mayor from 1972 to 1992. A World War II veteran, Milano also served as a Melrose alderman—as did his father before him—for seven years before running for mayor. During Milano's tenure as mayor, Melrose saw the construction of the current high school, renovations to City Hall and the revitalization of the downtown business district, including the introduction of the now-familiar Victorian lampposts. Family members said Robert Trudeau was a dedicated father, an engaged citizen, a big sports fan, and loved restaurants.
If there was one thing Robert C. Trudeau of Wakefield loved most, it was his family – his wife Ann, his sons Paul and Craig, his daughter Michele, and their spouses and children. “His home, his wife, and his kids, that’s what he wanted around him,” said his son, Paul Trudeau of Wakefield. “And his three grandchildren, Tess, Isabella, Will. When they would walk in he would light up - that was his center.” Robert C. Trudeau, a family man who was married to his wife Ann for 59 years, taught in Melrose for 38, and lived in Wakefield for 25 years, passed away on May 10 due to a heart problem. He was 85.
