Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition operates out of the Melrose Health Department at City Hall. TheMore Coalition formed in 2006 under the leadership of the Health Department, two years after two Melrose youths died from overdose-related incidents.

The Coalition holds programs for both children and parents, runs alcohol compliance checks at Melrose establishments and focuses on providing children with healthy alternative activities, among other initiatives.

Melrose Alliance Against Violence

Originally started in 1995 to address the need for battered women's services in the city, the Melrose AllianceMore Against Violence (MAAV) -- with offices on the second floor of the Beebe Estate -- has grown into one of the most active and well-known organizations in the city. The nonprofit has extended its scope beyond domestic violence to include bullying in schools and teen depression and suicide.

MAAV runs anti-bullying programs in Melrose schools and a mentoring program for middle school students, in addition to working with victims of domestic violence and providing a resource for the Melrose Police Department. Among its annual events are the Candlelight Vigil held each fall and the Melrose Running Club's annual Run for Women on Mother's Day, which benefits MAAV.

The Melrose Veterans Services Office, managed by Veterans Officer Natalee Anne Webb, advises localMore veterans and their dependents of their rights and entitlements under various federal/state laws, counsels them, and actively assists with the documentation necessary to obtain benefits. The office is on the first floor of City Hall.
