The mayor's office, located on the second floor of Melrose City Hall, has been occupied by Mayor Rob Dolan since JanuaryMore 2002. In addition to managing the  city departments, making various appointments to boards and commissions and presenting a city budget proposal to the Board of Aldermen each spring, the mayor also sits on the School Committee. The position carries a four-year term.

The City Clerk's Office, managed by City Clerk Mary Rita O'Shea, handles various records andMore licenses, including birth, death and marriage licenses; business certificates; dog licenses; and raffles and bazaar permits. The office also holds records of all Board of Aldermen documents; all meeting notices of municipal government bodies; and election and census records.
