Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition operates out of the Melrose Health Department at City Hall. TheMore Coalition formed in 2006 under the leadership of the Health Department, two years after two Melrose youths died from overdose-related incidents.

The Coalition holds programs for both children and parents, runs alcohol compliance checks at Melrose establishments and focuses on providing children with healthy alternative activities, among other initiatives.

The Melrose Canine Control Officer, currently Diane Kurkjian, can be more accurately described as the city's animalMore control officer, enforcing city ordinances such as leash laws, dealing with hurt, lost or loose pets and dog bites. The officer can also direct residents to the appropriate agencies in the case of wild animals on private property.

The canine control office is located in the Melrose Health Department on the basement level of City Hall.
