The newest Melrose elementary school, the new Roosevelt School was completed in 2002; before then, it was the oldest…More school in the Melrose elementary school system, having been built in 1924. The school, led by Principal Kerry Clery, serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade and, in the summer of 2010, is the home of the Melrose Public School's afterschool program Education Stations' new summer program, Camp K.I.D.S.
Although the Roosevelt School's address is technically on Vinton Street, only a small drop-off and pick-up area exists on Vinton Street since the construction of the new school in 2002. The main entrance to the school and parking lot are on Brunswick Park.
Brunswick Park isn't just home to Roosevelt Elementary School; at the end of the street is a beautiful, spacious…More park. There's a baseball field, basketball court and two woodchip playgrounds with slides and swings.
While Roosevelt has priority of the park during school hours, it's definitely worth visiting over the weekend. There's plenty of space beyond the baseball outfield to have your dog walk around, provided it's on a leash.
The Roosevelt parking lot isn't available during the day, but after school and on the weekends, you're free to park there. There is limited street parking as well, but from 7:30am - 8:30am and again from 2pm - 3pm. there is no street parking available.
