Open Beer Bottle, Missing Fishing Permit Leads to Warrant Arrest

State Police arrested a Melrose man who had an active warrant and tried to run away from a state trooper, after that trooper came across him fishing without a permit and with beer prohibited in Sandy Beach Reservation in Winchester.

An open bottle of beer and a missing fishing permit led to the chase and arrest on Saturday of a Melrose man who had a warrant out on an active felony, according to Massachusetts State Police. On Saturday, May 11 around 5:45 p.m., Sgt. Kevin Bibeau was walking a foot patrol of the Sandy Beach Reservation in Winchester when he came upon three people fishing on the shoreline, according to a State Police press release. Sgt. Bibeau greeted them and asked if they had obtained proper fishing permits. When they told him they didn’t, Sgt. Bibeau noticed an open bottle of beer and a bag that contained several more bottles of beer, which are prohibited on the reservation, the press release said. Driving on Rim, Man Arrested on OUI Drug Charge

The driver allegedly struck several vehicles along Main Street on Sunday morning.

Melrose Police arrested a man at mid-day on Sunday on the charge of driving while under the influence of drugs, after witnesses reported he crashed into multiple vehicles on Main Street while driving on one rim. Shortly after 11 a.m. yesterday, police received multiple calls reporting hit-and-run accidents involving a single vehicle on Main Street between Essex Street and the Melrose Fire Department headquarters, according to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau. Those witness reported that the vehicle was a black Chevrolet Avalanche traveling on only three tires and one rim, DeCroteau said.
