Melrose Man Allegedly Attacks Police Following Armed Home Invasion

A Melrose man is accused of attacking Salem Police officers after an armed home invasion Tuesday night, according to a report on Salem Patch.

At 9:52 p.m. Jan. 8, Salem Police responded to an apartment on Loring Avenue on a report of a man allegedly trying to force his way into an apartment, according to the report. Stephen Haverty, 56, of 52 Cranmore Lane, Melrose, was later arrested on several charges, including nighttime breaking and entering to commit a felony, armed assault in a dwelling to commit a felony, three counts of malicious destruction of property valued above $250, three counts of threatening to commit a crime, assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to the report. UPDATE: Cops Grab Alleged Assailant Who Fled Into Fells [VIDEO]

Thomas Barney, 60, is facing multiple charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon following an incident Friday morning in Stoneham.

Massachusetts State Police arrested a Boston homeless man allegedly involved in multiple assaults of women from the Melrose-Stoneham area after he fled into a wooded area Friday morning, according to authorities. Police arrested Thomas Barney, 60, and charged him with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (his foot), disorderly conduct and threat to commit a crime, according to Stoneham Police Lt. Jim McIntyre. Barney also was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Barnstable District Court charging him with defacing property, McIntyre said. Barney was expected to be arraigned in Woburn District Court Friday afternoon. At 9:45 a.m. Melrose Police requested assistance from State Police in searching for Barney after he allegedly …

Man Allegedly Wields Wooden Furniture Leg in Road Rage Incident

A driver allegedly used his car to block another car's progress, before getting out and threatening the other driver with a wooden furniture leg.

A 43-year-old Melrose man has been summonsed to court on an assault charge after another driver alleged that the man blocked his car in with his own car, and then got out wiedling a wooden furniture leg at the Swains Pond Avenue and Dexter Road intersection. Melrose Police received a 911 call at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday from a man who stated that as he approached the three-way intersection of Dexter Road, Penney Road and Swains Pond Avenue, he countered another vehicle at the intersection. The driver told police that the man tailgated him, pulled up besides his car and then in front of him before stopping, Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said. Golf Club Assault Charges Follow Fight Over Late Night Noise

Two men were arrested after a fight in the early morning hours on Sunday and another three were issued summonses.

Two men were arrested on assault with dangerous weapon charges—one of which was a golf club—after a early morning argument over noise, according to Melrose Police. On Sunday, Aug. 14 at 2:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a fight in progress in the roadway on Pearl Street. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said that officers found "several individuals" in the street when they arrived on scene. "It’s believed that three of the individuals were visiting somebody on Pearl Street and the two that are under arrest got into words with them about noise they were making on the other porches," DeCroteau said. Editor's note: This article was updated on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. The Melrose man accused of throwing his seven-week old son at the baby's mother—after which the infant subsequently landed face-first onto concrete —has been ordered held without bail for 90 days after a dangerousness hearing held today in Malden District Court. The judge pointed to Carlos Edwards' actions immediately after he threw his infant son, Carmello Sears, at his mother as proof he is a danger to society. Edwards did not attempt to help the child, who was critically injured in the fall. That, according to the judge, was evidence of Edwards' dangerousness. Carlos Edwards, 33, faces two charges of assault and battery after witnesses and police say he threw his child at his mother, where he landed on concrete outside of the mother's Malden home.

Melrose Officer Climbs In Window To Avoid Being Dragged By Car

Melrose Police arrested the driver of the car on 16 charges, including assault to murder, assault and battery on a police officer and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

A Melrose Police officer climbed through the window of a moving car to avoid being dragged by the vehicle, according to police, after pulling that car over in the early morning hours last Friday. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Rayshawn Davis of 62 Dix St. in Boston, was arrested on charges of assault to murder; two counts of assault and battery on a police officer; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and 12 other charges, mainly motor vehicle infractions. Melrose Police first responded to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital at approximately 1:15 in the morning on Friday, July 15, for a complaint about a disruptive person in the emergency room.
