The store received the most votes in this week's poll.
For this week's Patch Readers' Choice contest, we turned to you to discover the best grocery or convenience store in Melrose. Between Monday and Friday, 52 people voted for their favorite place to buy food. And the winner is...Foodmaster Supermarkets- also known as Johnnie's. The grocery store received the most votes of the seven candidates. The store has a bakery and deli and also posts weekly specials online. It also provides catering and delivery and can fulfill Web orders. Next week, we'll poll you on the best place to celebrate a graduation in the city. Voting starts Monday morning and goes through Friday at 9 a.m.

The new addition to the city's downtown has enjoyed brisk business since opening on May 2.
When Joe and Sarah Torretta were searching for a location for the flagship store of their bakery, D’Amici’s, they considered a number of towns on the North Shore. In the end, the Wakefield residents eschewed such towns as Winchester, Andover, and North Reading in favor of Melrose. They’re not sorry. “The store was completely mobbed the first week, I mean crazy mobbed all day … lines to the door,” Joe Torretta said in a recent interview. The Torrettas scheduled a “soft opening” for May 2, trumpeting it only with a sign in the window. However, the city took notice, leading to brisk business and unexpected, 80-hour workweeks for much of the staff. Coffee Tea and Me opens on Main Street.
Look out, Starbucks and Bohemian Coffeehouse: There's a new java player in town. Coffee Tea and Me opened at 421 Main St. a little under two weeks ago, its bright awning an eye-catching sight a few doors down from Papa Gino's. The seven-table establishment is still new enough to have a few moments of peaceful quiet, the gleam of the new coffee-making equipment contrasting nicely with painted wooden shelves, all of them filled with locally made goodies like organic Taza chocolate and gluten-free cookies from Tate's Bake Shop. A laptop lays open on a table, where a customer has been taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi, and the rear hallway doubles as a mini art gallery, the abstract work of Melrose painter John Maciejowski further brightening…
