Melrose Bests New Mission, Plays Brighton Next in MIAA Tournament

The top ranked Melrose High School boys' basketball team narrowly beat no. 8 New Mission 69-65 Saturday night at home in the quarterfinals. Melrose advances to the semifinals to play no. 5 Brighton Tuesday in Woburn.

The top ranked and undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team narrowly beat no. 8 New Mission 69-65 Saturday night at home in the quarterfinals of the MIAA North Division 2 tournament, according to the Boston Globe. Senior guard Samual Jean-Gilles tallied a team-high 21 points for Melrose, while Juwan Gooding scored 18 in the loss for New Mission, according to the Globe. The op-ranked and undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team beat no. 16 ranked Arlington 76-52 Thursday night in Melrose in the second round of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's North Division 2 tournament. Melrose (21-0), which earned a bye in the first round, moves on the the quartefinals to play no. 8 New Mission (15-6) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Melrose. The undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team plays host to no. 16 Arlington in the secound round of the North Division 2 tournament Thursday night in Melrose.

The undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team plays host to no. 16 Arlington in the second round of the North Division 2 tournament, according to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) website Melrose (20-0), earning a bye in the first round for being the top-ranked team in the MIAA tournament, takes on Arlington (11-12) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Melrose High. During the regular season, Melrose was 12-0 at home and 2-0 against Arlington, as they beat the Spy Ponders 59-48 Jan. 26 in Arlington and 58-56 Feb. 19 in Melrose, according to the Boston Globe website. Melrose High School will begin play in their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls' hockey team playing Monday night, according to the MIAA website. The no. 14 ranked Watertown/Melrose (13-7-2) girls' hockey squad takes on no. 19 ranked Arlington (11-8-1) at 5 p.m. Monday in Watertown. The winner advances to the second round to play no. 3 ranked Westford (15-3-2) Thursday at the Groton School in Winthrop.
