Boy Scouts of America Vote to Accept Openly Gay Scouts

The decision was made during the Boy Scouts of America's annual meeting in Texas.

The Boy Scouts of America’s National Council has voted to allow openly gay boys as accepted Scouts, according to WCVB TV. Under the Scouts’ Governing Board draft proposal, gay adults would remain prohibited from serving as Scout leaders, according to WCVB. More than 60 percent of voters at the annual Scout meeting in Texas supported the proposal.  Melrose is home to Troop 635.

Melrose residents also donated old bicycles and swapped books and plants at the Ell Pond Green and Clean Day on Saturday.

Melrose residents undertook some spring cleaning during the the Ell Pond Green and Clean Day on Saturday, while also donating old bicycles and swapping books and plants. Sponsored by the Ell Pond Committee in collaboration with Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church, the day also gave Melrosians the opportunity to donate old bicycles to Bikes Not Bombs. Tristan Stull and Scott Harper from the Jamaica Plain-based organization said 400 bikes were scheduled to ship out to Guatamala on Sunday, while most of the bike donations they receive lately go to Africa.
