City to Host Ceremony Honoring Boston Marathon Victims

The city of Melrose will be having a ceremony and wreath laying to pay tribute to the Boston Marathon victims at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Clarence DeMar Memorial at Ell Pond.

Injured Swan Being Treated at Wildlife Center in Weymouth

An injured swan rescued from Ell Pond Park in Melrose last week is being cared for at the New England Wildlife Center in Weymouth, according to Danielle Genter, a senior rescue technician with the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

An injured swan rescued from Ell Pond Park in Melrose last week is still being treated at a wildlife facility, according to Danielle Genter, a senior rescue technician with the Animal Rescue League of Boston. "The swan is currently being cared for at the New England Wildlife Center in Weymouth," wrote Genter in an email to Melrose Patch on Wednesday. "I called them this morning to get an update on (the swan's) status and the gentleman who answered the phone informed me that the swan was still recovering from (its) injuries and being monitored in their medical ward." Injured Swan Rescued From Ell Pond in Melrose

The Animal Rescue League of Boston helped a swan with a fishing lure stuck in its foot Tuesday afternoon at Ell Pond Park in Melrose.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston helped an injured swan Tuesday afternoon at Ell Pond Park in Melrose, according to a rescue technician. Around noon, the Animal Rescue League received a call from a concerned citizen about a swan entangled in fishing line at Ell Pond, according to senior rescue technician Danielle Genter. "When I first arrived, I could not find the injured swan but did see the other (three) members of its family," Genter said. "Diane Kurkjian, the canine control officer for Melrose, saw my vehicle and came over to assist. Play Hooky Friday at Ell Pond With An Impromptu Kids' Concert

'Wake up and Wiggle' at Ell Pond Park on Friday at 9 a.m. with Roman Music Therapy Services and Melrose Patch.

We at Melrose Patch decided that the weather is so nice, we should play hooky at Ell Pond Park tomorrow morning—and Meredith Pizzi at Roman Music Therapy Services agrees. Join us on Friday, May 18 at 9 a.m. at Ell Pond Park for "Wake Up and Wiggle," an impromptu half-hour concert geared towards the little ones. Meredith will play songs to get your kids dancing and singing. (Melrose Patch will try not to get in the way.) So take a half-hour out of your morning on Friday and bring your kid down to Ell Pond Park for a spontaneous moment of weather-inspired music!
