Judge Allows Wiretapped Evidence in Child Rape Case

An alleged child rapist's attorney will appeal a decision by a Middlesex Superior Court judge allowing evidence he argued was obtained through a violation of the state's wiretapping laws. Charles Bookman, attorney for Francis A. Watt, 68, of Melrose, will appeal the decision before the State Supreme Judicial Court, a spokesman for the Middlesex District Attorney's Office confirmed. Watt was arraigned in 2010 on charges including aggravated rape of a child, rape of a child with force and two counts of assault to rape a child. According to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the first victim, now an adult, was between the ages of 3-14 when she was allegedly abused by Watt.
