Melrose High School Boys' Hockey Blanks Arlington in MIAA Tournament

The no. 9 ranked Melrose High School boys' hockey team bested no. 8 Arlington 2-0 Wednesday night at O'Brien Rink in Woburn in the preliminary round of the Division 1 North bracket, according to the Boston Globe website.

The no. 9 ranked Melrose High School boys' hockey team bested no. 8 Arlington 2-0 Wednesday night at O'Brien Rink in Woburn in the preliminary round of the Division 1 North bracket, according to the Boston Globe website. Melrose (9-6-4) tallied a goal in the second period and another in the third, according to the Globe. For the second time this season Melrose beat Arlington on the road, as they beat the Spy Ponders 7-0 on Jan. 26 in Arlington, according to the Globe. Arlington finishes the season on a three-game losing streak and with an overall record of 8-8-5, according to the Globe. PHOTOS: Watertown/Melrose Hockey Team Loses to Arlington in Playoffs

The No. 14 ranked Watertown/Melrose girls' hockey team lost to no. 19 ranked Arlington 2-0 Monday night in Watertown in the preliminary round of the Division 1 state tournament.

The no. 14 ranked Watertown/Melrose girls' hockey team was eliminated from the playoffs Monday night, falling 2-0 to no. 19 ranked Arlington in the preliminary round of the Division 1 state tournament. Watertown/Melrose finished the season with an overall record of 13-8-2. Senior Carolyn Woodin scored both goals for Arlington. The Spy Ponders (12-8-1) advance to face No. 3 Westford (15-3-2) Thursday at Groton High School.  On Monday, at John Ryan Arena in Watertown, Woodin got things going Arlington’s way early, scoring just 1:36 into the game. MHS Teams Open MIAA Tournament Play This Week

Melrose High School will begin play in their Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournaments this week, with girls' hockey team playing Monday night, according to the MIAA website. The no. 14 ranked Watertown/Melrose (13-7-2) girls' hockey squad takes on no. 19 ranked Arlington (11-8-1) at 5 p.m. Monday in Watertown. The winner advances to the second round to play no. 3 ranked Westford (15-3-2) Thursday at the Groton School in Winthrop. Meanwhile, the top-ranked Melrose High boys' basketball team earned a bye in the preliminary round after running the table (20-0) during the regular season.
