Let us know where you'll be having your late morning meal on January 1, 2012.

So tell us, from your experience, what are the best places in Melrose to eat a late morning meal? Or if you will in fact be having brunch at home, what are the best recipes to make for your family and friends who've slept over? For this week's Patch Picks column, we want to know how you're going to impress your Thanksgiving Day guests.
Thanksgiving is one of the few times of the year that capable home cooks get to put on a show for their extended family and friends and inexperienced cooks have to dust off their cookware and try their hardest to. No matter your culinary aptitude, you're probably going to be searching through magazines and your social network for a way to refine your Thanksgiving Day feast. So for this week's Patch Picks, share with your neighbors your best tip for cooking a perfect Thanksgiving turkey. Or, if you don't have a turkey tip, give us your best Thanksgiving recipe. For this week's Patch Picks, we asked you to share with your neighbors where they should bring canned food, coats or other goods.
Food banks across the country are struggling every day to gather enough food to feed the poor, according to NPR, and even more so during the holidays. So for this week's Patch Picks, we asked which ones, along with soup kitchens and other non-profit organizations, need donations from the community. Here's what you told us: This Malden-based non-profit, which assists families in Melrose and Greater Boston, is holding a gift drive seeking toys and gift cards for homeless and at-risk families, according to Patty Kelly, community outreach coordinator for Housing Families. To learn more about Housing Families and how you may help with the drive, contact Kelly at 781-322-9119. Visit Housing Families website at www.housingfamilies.org. Christina…

Family-friendly discounts around town this week.
Despite the possible trickle-down effect of that good old Greek debt crisis, Melrose families still need some kind of getaway now and then. In the interest of getting you out of town, we present two outing ideas, as well as a smattering of other deals and steals. (As always, remember to check with merchants for additional conditions.) Don’t forget you're part of this column too. Let us hear about deals you've seen. Just add them to our comment box, at the bottom of this page. Then come back each week and see what we’ve uncovered together. Deal: Sometimes that Menino really pulls through for the common folk. Here's an example: Right now, you can score half-price tickets for several Boston holiday shows (The Nutcracker! Holiday Pops!) via …
