Krystle Campbell Mourned at Medford Funeral

Somber mood throughout Medford Monday for bombing victim's funeral, no protesters present.

A deep sadness permeated downtown Medford Monday for the funeral of Krystle Campbell, a native daughter killed one week ago in the bombings attacks at the Boston Marathon.  The funeral brought out hundreds, lining both sides of High Street as traffic was shut down near St. Joseph's Church.  So many came out that the church got to capacity with many still lined up past the St. Joseph's Social Center. While they came to pay their respects to Campbell, 29, who most recently lived in Arlington and worked as a restaurant manager, many also came to shield the family from a potential protest. Markey: Medford Vigil Part of 'Healing Process'

Congressman attended Wednesday night's vigil for those impacted by the Boston Marathon bombings.

U.S. Congressman Edward Markey (D-Malden) talked of more than one "healing process" for Medford after attending Wednesday evening's prayer vigil at Grace Episcopal Church meant to honor those impacted by Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon. Medford is grieving after the loss of native Krystal Campbell, who was killed in the bombings. "Every religion, every race came here today in order to actually help the healing process for the (Campbell) family and help the healing process for the city that is feeling a great deal of pain right now," Markey said. Victim's Mother: 'This Doesn't Make Any Sense'

Patty Campbell called her daughter Krystle a wonderful person, hard worker.

Patty Campbell, the mother of Krystle Campbell, delivered a brief, emotional statement Tuesday evening on her daughter, who was killed in Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon. "We are heartbroken at the death of our daughter, Krystle Marie," Patty Campbell said from the porch of the family's home at 25 Park St. in Medford. "She was a wonderful person, everybody who knew her loved her." Patty Campbell spoke to dozens of media members and was joined on her porch with her son, Billy, and brother, John Reilly. "We couldn't have asked for a better daughter," Patty Campbell said. "She was such a hard worker in everything she did...This doesn't make any sense." Medford Native Killed in Boston Marathon Bombings

Several outlets are reporting that Krystle Campbell, 29, is one of the three fatal victims.

A 29-year-old Medford native died in the Boston Marathon terror attacks yesterday, WCVB is reporting. Krystle Campbell was a 2001 graduate of Medford High, WCVB reported. The Boston Globe reported that Campbell was most recently an Arlington resident. Her father, William A. Campbell Jr., told Yahoo News that his daughter was at the finish line to cheer on her boyfriend who was running in the marathon. On WHDH, Medford Mayor Michael McGlynn said he spoke with Campbell's family within the last half-hour and offered the city's support and assistance. McGlynn said that her father called Campbell "the daughter everyone dreamed of having—loved life, very energetic and had a big smile." Campbell's LinkedIn profile listed her job as general …

Melrose Area Communities Taking Steps to Combat EEE, West Nile Virus

While the town may not be spraying, Melrose and nearby communities are taking other measures to combat the spread of EED or West Nile Virus.

With West Nile Virus and eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) being found in dozens of locations in Massachusetts, Melrose and nearby communities are stepping up efforts to combat the spread of either virus. West Nile Virus Found in Melrose, Other Communities On July 24 testing revealed West Nile Virus in mosquito pools in Medford, Malden and Melrose, according to state data. For the second consecutive year the virus was discovered in Medford and Melrose. The virus was detected in mosquitoes near the Stoneham-Melrose border last year, while the virus was discovered in mosquito pools near Ravine Road. A week after being found in the City this year, all catch basins in Melrose were treated with a larvacide to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes …

Middlesex County Man Infected by West Nile Virus

It's the first human case of WNV in Massachusetts this year.

An unidentified man from Middlesex County is this year's first person to be infected by the West Nile Virus in Massachusetts, according to the state's Department of Health and Human Services. The man is in his 60s and lives in a community north of Boston, according to a press statement from the Department of Health and Human Services Aug. 15. The man was diagnosed with West Nile Virus in late July, the statement said; he remains hospitalized but is recovering. Testing conducted on July 24 found the virus in mosquito pools in Medford, Malden and Melrose, according to state data. It is the second consecutive year the virus was found in Medford and Melrose.
