Mayor Dolan Announces 'Historical Agreement' With Melrose Patrolmen

After reaching a "historical agreement" with the Melrose Patrolmen's Union, the city of Melrose can expect to see at least three patrolmen and an officer assigned per shift every day, Mayor Rob Dolan said in a press statement on Monday.

A year ago "an outside consultant (was brought in) to review police operations, as I have done with other departments in the city," Dolan said in the statement. The consultant was brought in to investigate overtime costs associated with each shift, according to the statement. "When you bring in an outside expert to review operations, it is always difficult for the department being reviewed. Melrose Emergency Fund Tops $10K

Donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund have already reached over $10,000 this holiday season, according to a city press statement.

Donations to the Melrose Emergency Fund have already reached over $10,000 this holiday season, according to a city press statement. “Every year I am amazed and touched by the generosity of our residents,” said Mayor Rob Dolan in the statement. “Even in these uncertain fiscal times, the people of Melrose are willing to reach out to help their neighbors. This is the true holiday spirit.” In the past three years, the fund has helped more than 400 Melrose families with everything from a supermarket gift card at the holidays to help them get back on their feet after a major event such as an illness or a house fire, according to the statement.  “We want to ensure that no one in Melrose goes cold or hungry this winter,” Dolan said in the …

Dolan Swears In Two New Firefighters

Melrose Fire Department's newest firefighters are Patrick Rose and Jeremy Marrache. Both were sworn in on Tuesday at City Hall.

Mayor Rob Dolan swore in the two newest members of the Melrose Fire Department in a brief ceremony in City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 18, according to a city press statement.  The city's newest firefighters are Patrick Rose and Jeremy Marrache. "Both these young men come to the department with exceptional experience and credentials," said Dolan in the statement. "Their skills will mesh well with our department as we continue to refine the dual roles of fire operations and ambulance. Mayor Dolan Announces Renewal of Police Chief's Contract

Mayor Rob Dolan announced Thursday that he will be renewing Melrose Police Chief Mike Lyle's contract.

Mayor Rob Dolan announced Thursday that he will be renewing Melrose Police Chief Mike Lyle's contract. "I have made the decision to extend Police Chief Mike Lyle's contract for an additional three years," Dolan said in a statement. "His contract does not expire until a year from now; however, per his contract, a decision would have to be made by December 2012. "I made this decision because now is the time for stability and consistent leadership in the Melrose Police Department. The chief has created an action plan for the department that clearly defines a vision of community policing, strong management controls, public outreach, and customer service."
