A strong campaign by the Melrose High School boys' hockey team came to a close on Thursday in the semifinal round of the North Division 1 boys hockey playoffs, as Burlington won 3-0 at Chelmsford Forum.
Burlington is the defending Division 1 boys' hockey champion. And on Thursday night, the Red Devils showed Melrose High School why. Despite a strong performance by the Red Raiders, Burlington skated to a 3-0 victory in the North Division 1 semifinal contest inside Chelmsford Forum, though the game was 1-0 for much of the contest. With the setback, Melrose ended its season at 12-8-4. The team reached the semifinal game with an upset of No. 1 seed Chelmsford earlier in the week. The top ranked Melrose High School boys' basketball team saw their 22-game winning streak and playoff run come to an end Tuesday night in Woburn, losing 65-62 to no. 5 Brighton in the semifinals of the Division 2 North MIAA tournament. With just a few ticks left on the game clock, senior captain Samual Jean-Gilles (16 points) hoisted a three pointer but the shot would not fall and Melrose's remarkable run ended just shy of the finals. While Brighton (18-6) advances to the championship round to play either Wakefield or North Andover Saturday at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Melrose finishes the season with an overall record of 22-1. The top ranked and undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team narrowly beat no. 8 New Mission 69-65 Saturday night at home in the quarterfinals of the MIAA North Division 2 tournament, according to the Boston Globe. Senior guard Samual Jean-Gilles tallied a team-high 21 points for Melrose, while Juwan Gooding scored 18 in the loss for New Mission, according to the Globe.
