The Melrose Police Department E911 Dispatch Center and customer service desk will begin being renovated Jan. 28. During that time, the police station will not be accessible to the public, according to the city.

Police believe that 19-year-old Taylor A. Goulding is connected to seven recent armed robberies in Melrose, Stoneham, Woburn, Winchester and Reading.
Stoneham Police have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with seven recent armed robberies in the area—including a Nov. 7 robbery at the Richdale convenience store on West Wyoming Avenue in Melrose—police announced in a press release on Thursday morning. Taylor A. Goulding of Stoneham is charged with two counts of armed robbery while being masked and one count of attempted armed robbery while being masked for the three robberies that occurred in Stoneham on Oct. 30 at DB Mart, Nov. 1 at Sunset Tanning and Nov. 11 at C-Store. The Melrose Police Department will be participating in the Melrose Alliance Against Violence’s annual Walk and Candlelight Vigil which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m., starting and ending at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.
Melrose Police Department wants residents to know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and that their department, along with the Melrose Alliance Against Violence, are continually doing work to keep the peace in the community. Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the "Day of Unity" in October 1981 when it was conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, according to a police press statement. In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed, read the statement. Mayor Rob Dolan recently discussed some of the changes planned for the police station.
Mayor Rob Dolan recently discussed how the city will be upgrading the police station and 911 communications center. The city plans to make $450,000 in improvements to the police station, including improving the work areas for dispatch, customer service and the detectives. The majority of the changes will take place on the second floor, as there will be new flooring, fresh paint and new furniture. Meanwhile, the aging communications center will get an overhaul as well. "The system we have right now is 30 years old," Dolan said of the current communications center during a Sept. 13 press conference at City Hall. "(The new system) is more reliable. WCVB reports that the driver who allegedly ran over a motorcyclist in Franklin Square in Melrose on Sunday morning is a 76-year-old Stoneham resident now in custody. Melrose Police said in a statement earlier Sunday afternoon that the driver, who WCVB identified as Eugene Ledonne, had stopped behind the motorcyclist at a red light on Main Street northbound at Franklin and Green streets, and when the light turned green, Ledonne hit the motorcyclist from behind and knocked him off the bike.
