The Melrose Police Department's $450,000 facelift is substantially complete.
After more than two months of renovations, the Melrose Police Station's $450,000 facelift is nearly complete. Renovations were made to various rooms on the second level of the police station, as well as upgrades to the department's aging communication center which was more than 30 years old, according to Mayor Rob Dolan. The renovations began in late January, and the department had to shift its operations temporarily to City Hall while construction was underway. Police vacated the basement of City Hall on March 1 and returned to normal operations at the police station, according to the statement. The Melrose Police Department E911 Dispatch Center and customer service desk will begin being renovated Jan. 28, according to a city press statement. While the renovations are taking place, the police station will not be accessible to the public, according to the statement. "To ensure continued service, there will be a police sub-station on the lower level of City Hall that will be open to the public to accommodate requests for reports, applications, and other administrative police services," reads the statement. Mayor Rob Dolan recently discussed some of the changes planned for the police station.
Mayor Rob Dolan recently discussed how the city will be upgrading the police station and 911 communications center. The city plans to make $450,000 in improvements to the police station, including improving the work areas for dispatch, customer service and the detectives. The majority of the changes will take place on the second floor, as there will be new flooring, fresh paint and new furniture. Meanwhile, the aging communications center will get an overhaul as well.
