Here is the Melrose Patch 5 Things column for Monday, Feb. 11: 1. No school: Melrose Public Schools and St. Mary of the Annunciation School will be closed on Monday. 2. Parking ban update: Melrose's emegency parking ban will be lifted at 6 a.m. Monday, according to a city press statement. However, the city also wants drivers to know this: "That citizens in residential neighborhoods only park on the street if it is absolutely necessary. DPW will be widening streets and removing snowbanks. Cars on the street may hinder that progress. Many streets remain narrow, and on-street parking may cause disturbances in traffic flow and additional congestion. Melrose Public Schools Canceled

Students do not have to report to school Monday due to Hurricane Sandy.

Melrose Public Schools will be closed Monday as the city encourages people to stay indoors as Hurricane Sandy hits the commonwealth.  Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency. Mayor Tom Menino has asked all non-essentiall city personnel to stay home tomorrow.
