Melrose Bests New Mission, Plays Brighton Next in MIAA Tournament

The top ranked Melrose High School boys' basketball team narrowly beat no. 8 New Mission 69-65 Saturday night at home in the quarterfinals. Melrose advances to the semifinals to play no. 5 Brighton Tuesday in Woburn.

The top ranked and undefeated Melrose High School boys' basketball team narrowly beat no. 8 New Mission 69-65 Saturday night at home in the quarterfinals of the MIAA North Division 2 tournament, according to the Boston Globe. Senior guard Samual Jean-Gilles tallied a team-high 21 points for Melrose, while Juwan Gooding scored 18 in the loss for New Mission, according to the Globe. The Melrose High School girls' volleyball team captured the Division 2 state championship on Saturday, beating Longfellow 3-1 at the Algoquin Regional in Northborough, according to an ESPN report.
