Marian Burbine, whose husband John Burbine is facing nearly 100 sexual abuse-related charges, made her court appearance Thursday morning. She is expected to return to court Feb. 13.
Marian Burbine made a brief court appearance on Thursday morning, largely to set the terms of her ongoing home confinement in connection with the child sex abuse case against her husband John Burbine. Burbine and her husband operated the former Waterfall Education Center in downtown Wakefield, and also offered tutoring and day care services that would reportedly often take place at the children's homes. Her husband had been classified as a Level 1 sex offender back in 1989, which has touched off a separate legislative debate over how to reform the current system used to share information on sex offenders. Under the terms agreed to in court, Burbine, 46, is free to leave her home for 90 minutes each day between Monday and Friday at a set …

The former Melrose Board of Aldermen president and state representative candidate faces charges that he took a $3,000 bribe to secure a liquor license for a convicted felon and offered to sell illegal video poker machines to that person's restaurant.
The chairwoman of the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) told the Boston Globe this week that a bribery case involving a former ABCC investigator and erstwhile Melrose Board of Aldermen president appears to be an isolated case. The Globe reports that state Treasurer Steven Grossman has asked for an audit of the ABCC after the state has paid $1.7 million to resolve three employment cases involving harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. Not related to those cases is the impending trial of Arthur Hitchman, a one-time Melrose Board of Aldermen president, state representative candidate and aide to former state Sen. Richard Tisei. Hitchman was arrested a year ago on charges that he took a $3,000 bribe to secure a liquor …

The board of a medical condo building at the former hospital site could be liable for $5.2 million in damages, the Boston Globe reported.
A group of doctors who sued the developers of Langwood Commons, the residential and office development planned for the Boston Regional Medical Center site in the Middlesex Fells, may have cost the developer $5.2 million according to a judge's ruling, the Boston Globe reported. In 2008, the New England Memorial Hospital Condominium Association, which is the board of a medical condo building at the former hospital site, filed an appeal in Middlesex Superior Court regarding the Stoneham Zoning Board of Appeals approving changes to the traffic plans for the development, but not requiring a public hearing on those proposed changes. According to the Globe, Judge H.J. Smith Jr. ruled that the condo association didn't have the authority to appeal …
