As do I, Betsey. The original total ban was total overkill. I also agree with you that anyone not playing golf ought to stay off the golf course, and I also have no clue why it's so difficult a concept for some to wrap their heads around. I also support improving the trails and paths that do not fall within the course to provide a better experience for those walkers who choose to use them.   more ›

Melrose Park Commission Rescinds Dog Ban at Mt. Hood

On Monday the Park Commission voted 3-2 to rescind the total dog ban at Mount Hood.

The Melrose Park Commission narrowly voted to rescind a total dog ban at Mount Hood, according to multiple sources. On Monday the Commission voted 3-2 to overturn the dog ban, as dogs will be allowed in the park but not on the fairways or greens, according to Mayor Rob Dolan's blog.  "The ban has been replaced by a compromise, and now dog owners as well as Golf Management, Inc., and city staff must all do their part to ensure that all parties—dog walkers, golfers, and those who are simply out for a stroll—can enjoy Mount Hood," wrote Dolan. "This means that dogs must be on a leash at all times, and dogs are not allowed at all on the fairways, greens, or roughs of the golf course. "Golf Management has the primary responsibility for …

Proposed Dog Park Neighbors: 'Not In My Backyard'

Most of the residents who spoke at the hearing said they were in favor of a dog park, but several residents said they were against the proposed location. The current proposal developed by the Melrose Park Department and the Melrose Dog Society details plans to build a dog park near First Pond along Stillman Road. Nearby residents along Phillips Circle, Stillman Road and Slayton Road said they were most concerned about noise from dog barking, as well as dog waste, trespassing, and a surge in traffic …

It is disappointing to hear that many of the residents at the meeting are anti-dog park. Based on the proposed plan, they are working very hard to keep the place clean and quite. Not to mention that the park would probably have hours of use so you don't get dog barking at all hours. I'm sorry that I did not attend the meeting to show my support. I like to think that the majority of people in …   more ›
