UPDATE: Power Restored to All National Grid Customers in Melrose

There have been some power outages reported midday Friday.

Updated at 2 p.m. Power has been restored to all National Grid customers in Melrose Friday afternoon, according to a power outage map.  Of the 225,503 National Grid customers in Middlesex County, 508 were without power, according to the map.  Original Report There are currently less than five power outages midday Friday in Melrose, according to a National Grid power outage map. Nearly all of the power outages are concentrated in Medford, as 7,732 were in the dark, followed by Malden with 137 and Everett with 14, according to the map. National Grid Sponsoring Cleantech Open

The utility recent announced its support for the group in the hopes of helping develop green technology.

National Grid has announced that it will become a platinum sponsor of the 2013 Cleantech Open Northeast Business Competition and Accelerator Program, an initiative designed to help the development of innovative clean energy solutions. The program is run by the Northeast division of the Cleantech Open, a not-for-profit group that has helped 727 green energy startups raise over $800 million in capital since its founding in 2005. Nor'easter May Affect Wednesday Commute

Expect mostly rain in the city and snow outside of 495.

A nor'easter will kick up winds and rain in the region Wednesday, with sleet and snow likely west of Boston and in the higher elevations. According to WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert, the precipitation should start between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., which would impact the afternoon commute. Atmospheric conditions may convert falling rain into snow in Boston, though that would mean merely a dusting on grass before quickly melting away. The actual rain/snow line is harder to predict. "I don't expect much, if any accumulation in the Boston area, maybe a slushy coating around Rte. 128 on grassy surfaces as rain and snow battle it out for a few hours in the early evening," wrote Lambert on the 7 Weather Blog. MHS Students Released Following Reports of Potential Gas Leak

Students at Melrose High School were released at 10 a.m. Monday following reports of a potential gas leak.

Students at Melrose High School have been released for the remainder of the school day Monday, according to a school press statement, following reports of a potential gas leak. "Due to the reports of a gas odor at the high school building today students were relocated to the middle school for precautionary reasons," reads the statement. "After a thorough investigation National Grid and the Melrose Fire Department have determined that it was safe for all students and staff to return to the building. "There is however, some repair work that needs to be done which will require the HVAC system to be shut down. National Grid Says Power Should Be Restored to Most by Midnight Thursday

National Grid officials said that the majority of those without power, which is at 3 percent of all customers, should get it back by midnight tonight.

National Grid crews are out restoring power to those that are still in the dark after Hurricane Sandy and said that nearly all customers should have power by midnight tonight. In a teleconference Thursday afternoon, National Grid president Marcy Reed said that crews have been out restoring power to customers across the northeast for over 48 hours since beginning on Tuesday morning at 6 a.m., when the power company decided it was safe to begin working. Reed said that, as of 3 p.m. Thursday, power has been restored to 97 percent of National Grid customers. Roughly 5,600 customers are still without power. Power is expected to be restored to 24 homes that remain in the dark since Hurricane Sandy hit Melrose on Monday.

Power is expected to be restored to two dozen homes that remain in the dark since Hurricane Sandy hit Melrose on Monday, according to a city press statement. "Power has been restored to all but 24 households (as of 2 p.m. Thursday), and we expect them to have their electricity back by the end of the day (Friday)," reads the statement.
