This week -- May 19 to 25 -- is National EMS Week and the theme is "EMS: One Mission. One Team." In 1968, President Gerald Ford signed the first EMS Week proclamation, designating a time for the nation to celebrate the emergency medical technician paramedic as well as an opportunity to educate the public about the critical role of EMS in the community, according to EMS.gov. May 22 has been designated as Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day, according to emsweekideas.org. Every day our local, state and national EMS respond to crisis situations. Malden Police found the 10-year-old after a nearly three hour search.
A girl missing from Malden for about three hours was later found in Melrose after an extensive search by Malden and later Melrose Police Friday evening. The 10-year-old Mystic Valley Regional Charter School student, was found near Melrose High School around 8 p.m. The child was last seen playing with children in a relative's backyard, was unharmed, Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis said. She reportedly wandered away after the other children went home. Molis said the child was found after commiting "significant resources" to the search, coordinated by Malden Sgt. Joseph Connelly.

The men solicited and took bribes and then let the cab drivers cut in line, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Melrose's Michael Garvey and four other Massport employees allegedly solicited and took bribes from cab drivers at Logan Airport in exchange for letting them cut other taxis in line, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. The men were indicted Tuesday by a Suffolk County Grand Jury. The men are all Ground Transportation Unit agents, or “cab starters,” at Logan. Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said the men “exploited a position of power to line their pockets.” “It’s hard enough to make a living without having to grease a palm or pay a bribe,” he said. The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.
One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. There were 114 DUI fatalities in Massachusetts in 2012, which were 34 percent of traffic-related fatalities last year, according to Mothers …

Fire in wall reported at 109 Conant Rd.
Firefighters responded to a working fire at 109 Conant Rd, a private residence, Tuesday morning. The initial call was received around 11:30 a.m., with smoke showing upon arrival. A department spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

Police said the man broke into Maxima Auto Sales and was using a computer in their offices.
Malden Police arrested an alleged burglar reportedly found "engaged in a sex act" on a computer in a Malden auto dealership last Thursday. Scott Malik Derek, 20, of Everett, was reportedly found by a Maxima Auto Sales employee as they investigated a "strange noise" from behind a closed door. Derek was not known to employees, Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said. After an investigation, Derek was arrested for alleged breaking and entering daytime for a felony, as well as open and gross lewdness.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office has identified the pedestrian killed in the MBTA bus accident Tuesday night as Minor McLain, 88, a World War II veteran and Prisoner of War.
The 88-year-old pedestrian killed in the MBTA bus accident Tuesday night in the area of Franklin and Pratt Streets was Melrose resident Minor McLain, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office. McLain, a World War II veteran and Prisoner of War, died after being struck by the Melrose Highlands Bus 131 while attempting to cross the street to attend a weekly VFW meeting around 7 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and later transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, according to MBTA Transit Police Deputy Chief Kenneth Green.
