Another batch of heavy rain is expected on Monday evening and again on Tuesday.
For the second time in four days, flooding is possible in Melrose from heavy rain. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Monday evening through Tuesday evening for Melrose, as well as most of eastern Massachusetts and parts of Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. It is the second flood watch issued in the past four days – a similar alert was issued on Friday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea moved through. No major issues were reported in the two towns during that storm. “Showers are expected to overspread the region from west to east (Monday) afternoon,” the weather service said as it issued the flood watch. “The heaviest rain is expected to occur (Monday night), where some locations could pickup an inch…

Rain combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause minor flooding in streams Tuesday afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service said.
After the winter we've had so far, the warmer weather to start the week has been a welcome respite, but could cause flooding problems when rain passes through the area on Tuesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Melrose and much of Eastern and Central Massachusetts, in effect from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday morning. Up to an inch of rainfall is expected on Tuesday, which combined with melting snow from the storm at the end of last week could cause some small streams to experience minor flooding, the NWS said. "Poor drainage street flooding is likely Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially where snow is blocking catch basins," the NWS said in the food watch statement. "This could have an impact on …

Expect mostly rain in the city and snow outside of 495.
A nor'easter will kick up winds and rain in the region Wednesday, with sleet and snow likely west of Boston and in the higher elevations. According to WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert, the precipitation should start between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., which would impact the afternoon commute. Atmospheric conditions may convert falling rain into snow in Boston, though that would mean merely a dusting on grass before quickly melting away. The actual rain/snow line is harder to predict. "I don't expect much, if any accumulation in the Boston area, maybe a slushy coating around Rte. 128 on grassy surfaces as rain and snow battle it out for a few hours in the early evening," wrote Lambert on the 7 Weather Blog. "The snow will lose that battle to rain, …
