Melrose-based Beacon Hill Wine & Gourmet will be raising money for Marc Fucarile, a Boston Marathon bombing victim from Stoneham.

Melrose-based Beacon Hill Wine & Gourmet will be raising money for Marc Fucarile, a Boston Marathon bombing victim from Stoneham, according to store owner Rebecca Beraldi. Charitable Cause Beraldi, of Andover, will be having a fundraiser to benefit Fucarile on June 1 at her store, which has been in Melrose for 3 1/2 years. Fifteen percent of the store's total sales for that day, as well as all donations received from raffles, will go directly to Fucarile, she said. "The fun part of it all will be starting at noon (on June 1)," she said. "We're going to have a beer vendor, a wine vendor and I have two food vendors but I'm hoping to get three more.  "I'm very pleased with the generosity. I have not soliticed donations for raffles. Local Podiatrist Helps Boston Marathon Bombings Victims

Dr. Carl Conui, who has performed surgeries at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, helped people injured during the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday afternoon.

When bombs were detonated near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, Dr. Carl Conui described the scene as a "war zone." Conui, 44, of Stoneham, who works at New England Foot & Ankle Specialists which has offices in Reading and Somerville, has served as a volunteer at the Boston Marathon for about 15 years. He also has performed surgeries at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Common Foot Ailments on Race Day At past marathons, Conui said that the typical types of injuries he has dealt with include blisters, damage to nails, sprains, strains, assisting with physical therapy and dehydration issues that cropped up at last year's race due to the hot weather.  "This year it was interesting because I told the students that this …

MWRA Work May Cause Discolored Water in Melrose, Stoneham

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority will begin work to replace a water meter on Nov. 26.

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) will begin work to replace a water meter on Monday, Nov. 26, according to a press statement. "This work may cause discolored water in parts of Melrose and Stoneham in the areas around West Wyoming and the Fellsway (east of Ravine Terrace) for up to three days," reads the statement. "There will be no impacts to water pressure."  If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes, reads the statement. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, "iron will stain light colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used," according to the statement. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry …

Stoneham Man Pleads Not Guilty to Charges in Melrose Hit-and-Run Case

Eugene Ledonne, 76, of Stoneham, was arraigned Tuesday in Malden District Court on charges of leaving the scene of accident after causing personal injury and assault and battery dangerous weapon (motor vehicle) stemming from an accident in Melrose Sunday.

A Stoneham man accused of running over a motorcyclist at a Melrose intersection Sunday morning pleaded not guilty to charges in a Malden court on Tuesday, according to officials. Eugene Ledonne, 76, of Stoneham, pleaded not guilty to charges of leaving the scene of accident after causing personal injury and assault and battery dangerous weapon (motor vehicle) in Malden District Court, according to Stephanie Guyotte of Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone's Office. Judge Matthew Nestor released Ledonne on $300 bail with conditions of no driving and no contact with the victim, Guyotte added.  Ledonne's next court appearance will be on Sept. 26, as he's scheduled for a pre-trial conference, according to Guyotte. Three More Human Cases of West Nile Virus Confirmed in Middlesex County

Officials are urging the public to take precautions against West Nile virus.

Three more human cases of West Nile Virus have been confirmed in Middlesex County and the threat level is being raised in several communitites, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.  In response, the DPH has raised the WNV threat level to "high" in the following communities: Chelsea, Everett, Lexington, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Revere, Saugus and Winthrop. Also, the threat level is being raised to "moderate" in other towns: Bedford, Burlington, Lincoln, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester and Woburn. WNV mosquito cases have been confirmed in 97 towns statewide this year and the state on pace to have the highest number of cases since 2000, according to the DPH.  Below are precautions to take against contracting West Nile …
