The Melrose Middle School eighth grade hockey team narrowly beat North Andover 3-2 Sunday night in overtime in Haverhill to win the South Division Championship of the Valley Middle School Hockey League, according to the VMSHL website. Melrose avenged a 6-2 loss to North Andover on Feb. 17 during the regular season, according to the site. Melrose advanced to the finals by defeating Saugus 4-1 Saturday night in Woburn, according to the site. Melrose finished the season, including playoffs, with a record of 9-4-1, according to the site.
