Melrose Mom Remembers Meeting Alleged Molester At Play Groups

Wakefield's John Burbine, who faces dozens of child sex abuse charges, didn't come off as the average caregiver, said local mom in a conversation with Wakefield Patch.

A Melrose mother who remembers meeting John Burbine on several occasions when she and her friends brought their children to area play groups. The woman, who asked to speak anonymously, said that she met Burbine, who is facing almost 100 charges involving child sex abuse, this spring at one of the drop-in play groups that are popular with area parents. She estimated that the play groups will typically have as few as three or as many as ten people present. She recalled that Burbine was there with a young toddler/late infant, "and they were just playing normally, like we were." She said that Burbine told them, very casually, that he took care of children for several families in the area and may have even used the term "nanny" to describe his …

A Wakefield man and tutor who faces numerous child sex charges was a Level 1 sex offender.

On Thursday afternoon, news spread quickly through the region about the indictment of a Wakefield couple for numerous charges stemming from an illegal day care operation where graphic child sexual abuse occurred. The Middlesex County District Attorney's office alleges that at least 13 children were abused while under the care of John Burbine, 49, at the Waterfall Education Center, which offered tutoring and day care. Burbine was a level 1 sex offender, which means he had been convicted of a sex-related crime but was deemed least likely to re-offend. Sex offenders are classified according to the degree of dangerousness they pose to the public and their likelihood to re-offend. A Level 1 offender has been classified as a “low risk.” A Level …

I think they should have a huge S.A BRANDED on their forehead and when they go to prison put them with the general population instead of protecting them.
