Melrose Family YMCA to Get New Spin Bikes

The Melrose Family YMCA will be getting new spin bikes at the end of January.

The Melrose Family YMCA will be getting new spin bikes at the end of January, according to a press statement. The bikes are the Keiser M3+ series, which are the latest edition to the Keiser bike line, reads the statement. Members can register for spin classes listed on the Metro North YMCA website or by calling the Welcome Center at 781-665-4360. The YMC offers more than 40 free group exercise classes weekly, including yoga, TRX, Zumba, and Tabata, according to the statement. "These group exercise classes have helped promote healthy living within the Melrose community and are intended to help you keep a balance of spirit, mind, and body," reads the statement. Laptop, Flat Screen Discovered Missing From YMCA

Also discovered missing on Monday morning were a coinbox and a camera, according to Melrose Police.

Melrose Police are investigating an apparent burglary at the YMCA on Main Street. At 4:36 a.m. on Monday morning, YMCA employees reported a possible breaking and entering to Melrose Police. According to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau, the employees stated they were opening up for the day when they noticed a laptop normally at the lobby desk was missing. Also discovered missing was a flat screen television mounted to the wall in the gym area, a coinbox and a computer camera, DeCroteau said. A computer on the floor had been knocked over. Melrose Police are continuing an investigation, DeCroteau said.

Melrose Native Comedian to Perform at Cambridge YMCA

Ken Reid is slated to perform Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the YMCA, 820 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge.

There have been studies showing that laughing can lead to a longer and healthier life. If that's the case, get your laugh on when Melrose native and current Stoneham comedian Ken Reid takes the stage at the YMCA in Cambridge on Saturday. Reid, who has been involved in the Boston-area comedy scene for nearly eight years, is set to perform his one-man show called "Shirt Tales" at the YMCA, 820 Massachusetts Ave., at 7 p.m. May 19.  “This will be the fourth time I've had the chance to do this show in this format,” Reid said. “This is my longest show where I use Power-Point and other multi-media to tell stories about my life growing up in the area.
