Brother: Injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. Doing 'Awesome'

Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue Jr., who was injured in a firefight with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, is recovering well at Mount Auburn Hospital, according to his brother Ed Donohue.

MBTA Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue Jr. is awake and doing "awesome" while recovering at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, his brother and Winchester Police Officer Ed Donohue, told CBS Boston. Donohue Jr., a Winchester native, was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspect in Watertown. Donohue Jr., 33, of Woburn, was hit in the leg during an early-morning shoot-out on April 19 in Watertown, authorities said. Authorities are investigating whether Donohue Jr. may have been hit by friendly fire. Donohue Jr. is a police officer with the Massachusetts Bay Tranportation Authority, where he has worked for three years. The Boston Globe reported that the Massachusetts State Police confirmed that Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr. may have been hit by a bullet fired by a fellow officer.

Authorities are looking into whether Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr., who is recovering at Mount Auburn Hospital after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspect, was perhaps struck by friendly fire, the Boston Globe reported. State Police spokesman David Procopio confirmed Thursday that the investigation is underway, according to the Globe. It states that Donohue, 33, of Woburn, was struck in the leg by a bullet which is embedded in his leg. The Globe quotes two law enforcement sources who asked not to be identified about the investigation. Doctor: 'Cautiously Optimistic' on Injured MBTA Officer's Recovery

Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning.

During a press conference Sunday afternoon at Mount Auburn Hospital, Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning. Following the conference, Dr. Russell Nauta, professor of surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital, explained what happened to Donohue Jr. "He was shot through the anterior thigh and there was an entrance wound and no exit wound so the bullet remains in the leg," Nauta said, adding that there were no fractures and partial transection of three out of the four blood vessels that are in the leg. Outpouring of Support for Injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.

Richard Donohue, of Woburn, was injured in the Watertown gunfight early Friday morning during the hunt for the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

There has been an outpouring of support, thoughts and prayers for Winchester native and MBTA Police Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue Jr., who was injured during a Thursday night shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects. Donohue, 33, who recently moved to Woburn with his wife and 7-month-old son. He has been a member of the MBTA Transit Police for three years. Acera School Relocating From Melrose to Winchester

With plans to expand in the future, the Acera School will be relocating from Melrose to Lowell Street in Winchester in September.

With its eyes set on expansion, Acera, the Massachusetts School of Science, Creativity and Leadership, will be relocating from Melrose to Winchester in September, according to a press statement. In late March, the Winchester Zoning Board of Appeals approved Anova Inc's request for a special permit and site plan review to relocate the school to Lowell Street.  "Acera will expand into (a) high school in coming years to keep pace with current students," reads the statement. Acera, which serves students from communities such as Somerville, Newton, Belmont, Winchester, Medford, Lexington, Woburn and Melrose, has an enrollment of 59 students in grades K-8, according to founder and co-director Courtney Dickinson. Police believe a masked gunman who robbed a Reading gas station late Thursday night is the same suspect in five Melrose area armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery Sunday night at a convenience store in Stoneham. The Gulf Gas Station on Main Street in Reading was robbed of several hundred dollars Thursday evening at approximately 10:45 p.m., according to Reading Police. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately six feet tall and 180 pounds.
