Doctor: 'Cautiously Optimistic' on Injured MBTA Officer's Recovery

Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning.

During a press conference Sunday afternoon at Mount Auburn Hospital, Dr. David Miller said he was "cautiously optimistic" about Winchester native and MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.'s recovery after he was wounded during a shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects early Friday morning. Following the conference, Dr. Russell Nauta, professor of surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital, explained what happened to Donohue Jr. "He was shot through the anterior thigh and there was an entrance wound and no exit wound so the bullet remains in the leg," Nauta said, adding that there were no fractures and partial transection of three out of the four blood vessels that are in the leg. Outpouring of Support for Injured MBTA Officer Richard Donohue Jr.

Richard Donohue, of Woburn, was injured in the Watertown gunfight early Friday morning during the hunt for the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

There has been an outpouring of support, thoughts and prayers for Winchester native and MBTA Police Officer Richard "Dic" Donohue Jr., who was injured during a Thursday night shoot-out with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects. Donohue, 33, who recently moved to Woburn with his wife and 7-month-old son. He has been a member of the MBTA Transit Police for three years. The top ranked Melrose High School boys' basketball team saw their 22-game winning streak and playoff run come to an end Tuesday night in Woburn, losing 65-62 in the semifinals of the Division 2 North MIAA tournament.

The top ranked Melrose High School boys' basketball team saw their 22-game winning streak and playoff run come to an end Tuesday night in Woburn, losing 65-62 to no. 5 Brighton in the semifinals of the Division 2 North MIAA tournament. With just a few ticks left on the game clock, senior captain Samual Jean-Gilles (16 points) hoisted a three pointer but the shot would not fall and Melrose's remarkable run ended just shy of the finals. While Brighton (18-6) advances to the championship round to play either Wakefield or North Andover Saturday at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Melrose finishes the season with an overall record of 22-1. Police: Melrose Armed Robber Strikes Again; Robs Reading Gas Station

Police believe a masked gunman who robbed a Gulf Gas Station in Reading late Thursday night is the same suspect in five Melrose area armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery Sunday night at a convenience store in Stoneham.

Police believe a masked gunman who robbed a Reading gas station late Thursday night is the same suspect in five Melrose area armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery Sunday night at a convenience store in Stoneham. The Gulf Gas Station on Main Street in Reading was robbed of several hundred dollars Thursday evening at approximately 10:45 p.m., according to Reading Police. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately six feet tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing black pants, a black sweatshirt with a hood and a mask.  The suspect made it a point to show his black handgun to the clerk before he took several hundred dollars, according to police. Police: Melrose Armed Robber Also Hit Stoneham, Winchester and Woburn

Since Oct. 30, five Melrose area businesses have been robbed at gunpoint, and police believe it's the same person.

Recently, five armed robberies have occurred at Melrose area businesses and police believe the suspect in each case is the same person. Since Oct. 30, five armed robberies—including one at the DB Mart convenience store and another at Sunset Tanning in Stoneham—have taken place in the area, including one in Melrose, Winchester and Woburn, according to investigators. The suspect is described as being a white male, approximately 5-foot-8, wearing a black hat, black mask, black sweat shirt, black gloves, black running pants with a white stripe down the leg and black sneakers with white soles, according to Stoneham Detective Christopher Dalis.  "I have been working with Woburn, Winchester and Melrose detectives," said Stoneham Detective …
