Candidates needed to submit their nomination papers by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Alderman-at-Large and School Committee candidates needed to collect 120 signatures each to be certified on nomination papers, while Alderman Wards 1-7 candidates needed 20. 

To be eligible for the Nov. 5 election, candidates needed to meet certain criteria, including being a Melrose resident, an American citizen, a registered voter and at least 18 years old.
