Update: Red Sox Slugger David Ortiz to Give Baseball Clinic in Melrose

Find out when Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will be leading a baseball clinic in Melrose.

Veteran Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz will be returning to Melrose in September for the second annual youth baseball clinic, according to a ProCamps Worldwide press statement.

Ortiz, a nine-time All-Star and designated hitter for the Red Sox, will lead a one-day Hannaford David Ortiz Baseball Clinic from 4-6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 near Melrose High School at Fred Green Field and Morelli Baseball Field. In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be relocated indoors to the Marcoux Gym. He will be joined by a selection of the top prep and college coaches from the area, reads the statement.

The clinic is geared toward boys and girls in grades 1-8 and focuses on baseball fundamentals, and groups will be small to ensure each attendee gets personalized instruction, according to the statement.

Ortiz will discuss various aspects of the game, and all participants will receive an autograph from the slugger, a team photo with David, an official clinic t-shirt and the opportunity to win additional prizes.

Cost of the clinic is $79, though Citi card members can purchase preferred registration for $49, reads the statement. One hundred-fifty spots are available for the clinic.
