Melrose High School to Open Wednesday After Alleged Bomb Threat

Melrose High School students will need to leave their backpacks at home for school on Wednesday after an alleged bomb threat made on Tuesday.

Melrose High School issued an automated call Tuesday afternoon to parents about a possible bomb threat at the school, according to a report from a reader.

At roughly 2 p.m., school officials learned about a message written on a stall in a boys' bathroom at the high school, according to the reader.

Parents were alerted to the message via the Connect-Ed automated calling system the city uses for situations such as this.

Melrose High classes will be in session on Wednesday, but students have been asked to leave their backpacks behind as a safety measure and also enter the school through the main entrance only, which is how the school handled a similar situation last year.

Melrose Patch attempted to speak with Police Chief Mike Lyle Tuesday evening, but he wasn't immediately available. A police detective declined to comment on the investigation Tuesday night, referring Melrose Patch to Lt. Mark DeCroteau who wasn't available.
